Hi! My name is Michele and welcome to my corner of the internet. I wasn’t always a coach for interior designers and creative entrepreneurs. In fact, I didn’t start in the home industry at all. My career began in financial software development with Management Science America and Dun & Bradstreet Software. While it might sound dull, those years helped me refine my tech, testing, and organizational skills—skills I rely on to this day.

My Career Change

In 2000, I opened my soft furnishings company, The Scarlet Thread. Like many new business owners, I had to find my confidence while answering tough questions like:

  • How much should I charge for my work?

  • Why am I second-guessing my decisions all the time?

  • How much money should I spend on advertising, and where should I market my services?

  • Should I join a networking group? And if so, which one?

  • How do I handle difficult clients while maintaining professionalism?

Thankfully, I learned the answers. But I saw so many colleagues facing the same struggles. Around me, talented workrooms and designers were drowning under the weight of running—and trying to grow—a business.

I began sharing advice and tips wherever I could without being pushy. Before long, I started teaching business classes focused on good practices and pricing custom work. I taught at the Custom Home Furnishings Academy in North Carolina and at trade shows across the U.S. I even partnered with colleagues to manage the academy’s daily operations.

“I became so passionate about helping interior designers & workrooms grow into profitable businesses that I sold my soft furnishing company to focus on business and financial coaching.”

My Shift to Coaching…

Helping interior designers and workrooms grow profitable businesses became my passion. So, I sold my soft furnishings company to focus entirely on business and financial coaching.

Over the years, I’ve been asked to consult and coach creative businesses on how to reach the next level.

The most common question I hear is:
“What do I do next to get the clients I want and make the profit I need?”

After years of teaching entrepreneurs about business practices, mission clarity, and pricing, I wanted to take it further. In 2013, I began offering one-on-one coaching to interior designers, custom drapery workrooms, and other creative professionals.

Why Profit Matters for Interior Designers

I noticed something missing in my clients’ plans: a focus on building businesses that support their families. Many had been told not to focus on money, prioritizing client growth instead. But after reviewing their books, I saw opportunities for them to earn more while working less.

That’s why I became a certified Profit First coach: to help my clients make sustainable decisions based on their financials—not their feelings.

How I Serve My Clients

In addition to coaching, I host workshops, provide online training, and offer educational seminars on a variety of business topics across the country. My mission is to empower interior designers and creative entrepreneurs to build profitable, sustainable businesses that support the lives they truly want.
